So I started on UV unwrapping this week! After some help from my mentor Gerardo, I was able to work it out pretty easily, and the sample texture worked fine without distortion on the pants! Surely this unwrap will be easy now!
Oooorrr... not so much. The ears had a TON of funky edge loops, so I had to redo them completely. To start with, I tried just editing the edge loops on the existing ear, but this didnt work, so I had to recreate it completely. I stripped the faces from the existing ears, keeping only the base edge loops and reforming them to work properly during any future UV unwraps, and then started refacing them.
This took quite a few days, mainly because I spent most of the time adjusting verts and edges to try and fix lighting issues and create clean edge flow. But, the results were a bit lackluster...
At this point, I was getting desperate. After hours of work, I thought, "Why not just subdivide and decimate, and let Blender take the wheel? Surely this will ruin all of my faces and edge loops."
Why. Did I really just waste all that time moving verts when I just had to do 2 modifiers.
OKAY. So now the ears are fixed and can be properly unwrapped with the head, it only took way longer than it should've!
Next week: Full unwrap and texturing!
