Oni Drunkard Model WIP: Final Mesh and Beginning Rigging

The first thing I started on for this update was getting the mask down for the oni, as it would be the most recognizable and stylistically forward part of its design. Rather than extrude the mask from the head faces, I just added a single vert and started building the geometry from there around the contours and shape of the face.

After building the general shape I used proportional editing to fit the mask to the features of the face, making sure to focus on the expression on the brow and the shape of the lips and jowls especially.

Then it's just a matter of adding the teeth and eyebrows to fill the gaps and flesh out the features, making it look more full.

Next was the outfit. This was a lot more simple, with low poly spheres for the necklace beads, a torus for the chain, and just an extrusion of the base body geometry for the robe, stretching it to its new shape with proportional editing.

And then his weapon, a giant beer stein! I made it by essentially cutting out the middle of a cube, subdividing it, then just beveling and extruding extra geometry, then adding on similar shapes with the rings on the handle and exterior. I'm overall happy with how it turned out, as it was actually super easy to build and only took a few minutes, and moving forward I'll be adding a weapon controller bone on the handle to use with the Oni.
Speaking of rigging, here's the initial skeleton! It's just paired to the body right now and none of the clothes, and has a ton of work needed before it's ready to animate, mostly with weight painting. The plan is to add controller bones to the necklace, sleeves, and mask to give a lot of secondary motion to the figure as they move and attack, which will hopefully sell a lot of the impact from his moves.

And as you can see here, the rigging is still rough around his waist especially, but actually working pretty well on his arms!

That's all for now, hopefully he'll be fully rigged by next week!
