I've been really getting into the development process for 3d anthro characters and I really wanted to do more in the exaggerated style of Barnaby's Quest, so I started to design some antagonist characters to use as boss fights! I want to have about 4 characters in total of different species and themes, and to start with, I started with the "muscle" of the group.
I wanted to keep his proportions fairly lanky and top heavy, with big hands and feet to exaggerate his attacks. For his outfit, I took inspiration from punk aesthetic, luchadors, and pro wrestling, specifically The Undertaker with his caped appearance.
And here's the initial sculpt! For this model, instead of sculpting and retopologizing, I did all of the modeling by hand with loop cuts, extrusion, and knifing. As a result, the poly count is nice n low.
Next the hair! I wanted it to cover his eyes and mask a bit to look a bit more punk/emo.
One character I was pretty inspired by for this design was Alex from street fighter, specifically because of his heavy combat boots, and worn jeans. So I posed the rough armature in his idle stance.
And then the pants were extruded and the gloves were hand modeled! Looks pretty alright so far! For the mask, I'll try using a bumpmap first, but if that doesn't work great, I'll extrrude some geometry for it.
Ready to rock!
For animations, I'm thinking of trying some fighting game moves, like Sol Badguy's bandit bringer attack, or Terry Bogard's burn knuckle! As well as some original attacks thrown in, I think it'll end up pretty good!
That's all for now!
